Collin and Astrid's youngest four chicks are now fully independent from their parents. I'm keeping three of the four, and the other one is scheduled to go to his home tomorrow.
This is the female, in front. I had planned to sell her, but after she came out of the box and I was able to get a good look at her posture and body shape as she sat on the perch, I decided I really needed to put those features into my future chicks.
I used to think those paintings were idealized by the artist, and that no budgie was actually shaped like that. Now I think my little guy must be a throwback to some long ago exhibition budgie ancestor. I am really looking forward to using the chicks from this clutch to see how they might improve the look of my birds.
